Trump referred to January 6, 2021, as "Love Day."
Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the U.S. presidential election, referred to January 6, 2021, as the "Day of Love" during a town hall event hosted by Univision on Wednesday.
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, which saw Democratic candidate Joe Biden emerge victorious, Trump claimed that he was defeated due to widespread fraud. This unfounded assertion fueled a violent attack on Capitol Hill by his fervent supporters on January 6, 2021, aimed at obstructing Congress's confirmation of Biden's victory.
During the event, Trump stated that he had called for peaceful protests, which drew hundreds of people to Washington, D.C. on that day. In a speech from the White House prior to the attack, he encouraged his supporters to march to Capitol Hill and later watched the events unfold on television. He subsequently urged his followers on social media to leave the area.
Addressing the January 6 incident, Trump emphasized that his supporters were motivated not by him personally, but by their belief that the election was rigged. He asserted that no mistakes were made and that the response was part of a strong system.
Trump stated that his supporters did not shoot anyone on January 6 and insisted that they were unarmed, while suggesting that others were armed.
He revealed that he had asked his Vice President, Mike Pence, to delay the confirmation of Biden's victory, but Pence refused. Since then, Trump has criticized Pence multiple times.
During his recent remarks, Trump expressed his disagreement with Pence's actions, stating that he fundamentally disagrees with what Pence did.
Trump has yet to accept his defeat in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. As the upcoming presidential election on November 5 approaches, Trump and his opponent, Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party, are focused on last-minute campaigning.
