Trump has accused the UK Labour Party of interfering in the election.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign has accused the UK Labour Party of interfering in the US election, characterizing it as "blatant foreign interference" in a complaint filed with the Central Election Commission in Washington. The campaign claims that some British volunteers traveled to the US to support Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The complaint calls for an investigation into potential illegal contributions from members of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's party to Harris's campaign.
Historically, UK volunteers have participated in US elections, with Labour Party members typically backing Democratic candidates while Conservative Party members support Republicans. The Labour Party won the UK election in July of last year, and several senior advisers from the party have visited the US recently to meet with Democratic strategists, according to anonymous British officials speaking to Reuters.
Labour leader Starmer has stated that he does not believe these accusations will harm UK-US relations if Trump wins the November 5 election, emphasizing that the volunteers acted independently.
Trump maintains a close relationship with right-wing UK figures like Nigel Farage and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, but he also praised Starmer during a meeting at Trump Tower last September.
Accusations of foreign interference in US elections are not new; both major parties have previously pointed fingers at Russia, China, and Iran, all of whom have denied such allegations.
