Zelensky interested in 'deal' with Russia: Trump
President-elect Donald Trump stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is interested in making a "deal" to end the war with Russia, following their meeting in Paris on Sunday. Trump shared this on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The trilateral meeting, which also included French President Emmanuel Macron, took place on Saturday at the presidential palace. Macron arranged the meeting amid growing skepticism in Kiev about the US administration's stance on the war with Russia.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, "Zelensky and Ukraine will choose to reach an agreement and stop this madness."
The incoming US president emphasized, "A ceasefire and negotiations should begin immediately. Too many lives have been lost needlessly, too many families have been destroyed. If this continues, it will turn into something bigger and worse."
Trump has repeatedly criticized sending billions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine and claimed he could end the conflict in 24 hours, though he did not elaborate on how.
Meanwhile, shortly after the meeting, the Biden administration announced nearly $1 billion in new military aid for Ukraine. This includes drones, tanks, armored vehicles, ammunition for HIMARS rocket launchers, and equipment and parts for artillery systems.
