Trump called Putin, what message did he give about the Ukraine war

Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him not to escalate the war in Ukraine. The Washington Post reported this development on Sunday, noting that the conversation took place last Thursday, shortly after Trump won the U.S. presidential election against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. At the time, Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Trump's representatives were contacted by AFP for comment on the phone call, but they did not immediately respond.

While sources familiar with the conversation remained anonymous, the Washington Post reported that Trump reminded Putin of the U.S.'s "massive military presence" in Europe. Trump also expressed interest in speaking with Putin again soon to discuss ways to resolve the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Russian Embassy in Washington was also asked for a comment on the Trump-Putin conversation but did not respond.
